Jesus is the Reason for the Season! | Print |  E-mail
Written by Angel Everett

Let us rejoice! A Savior is born! Should it not be that the whole world would remember?

The week before Christmas is probably the busiest time of the year, especially for women. There is cooking to do and presents to wrap. If you are like me, you're still trying to finish up your shopping. I hope this Christmas season, that we all can take the time to remember the 'Reason for the Season'.

Christmas is a time when we, as Christians, have the opportunity to share the joy we feel about our Lord and Saviour. As much as the secular world would love to make it only about gifts and giving and good will to men, it remains the day that we celebrate the birth of our God. They cannot take that away from us. We can short change ourselves if we neglect to reflect on it.

The miraculous birth of our Savior is a cornerstone of our faith. How He came to this old world and lived a life of hardship and poverty began with His first breath taken surrounded by the lowly beasts of the fields. Everything about His birth has meaning. As I get older, the story becomes more meaningful.

Why did He do it? No matter how many times I reflect on this, it still brings tears to my eyes. He didn't have to come. He didn't have to die for us. He did it because He loves us. He is not dead. He Lives! He listens to our prayers and knows every hair upon our heads. In my darkest moments, it's He that brings me through.

I love the little manger scenes that come with this season. It give me an opportunity to tell my grandchildren the story of His birth. No matter how hard I try, I will disappoint my loved ones and some day I will be gone. But if they know Him, they will never be alone and there is nothing that they will not be able to face because of Him.

So I want to remember and I want everyone to know His story. Even the scientists know of His star. Angels came down to rejoice with lowly shepherds. Wise men traveled across the world to see Him. Kings sought to kill Him. The wisest scholars of the day, listened to Him when He was yet a child. And He is ours! We are His!

May you rejoice in the story of His birth. May you spread that joy to others with the passion that comes from believing in Him. He is the 'Reason for the Season'.

If you or a family member is going through a crisis, I want you to know that you're not alone.
